What is a CVAC?

The term CVAC is used to refer to a Canadian Visa Application Centre, which are becoming increasingly popular around the world. Applicants can submit certain types of immigration applications to these centres and can do biometrics upon submission of their application, if required, as well.

CVACs charge a processing fee to use their facilities in addition to the existing government fees. The CVAC will review your documents upon submission and will ensure everything is in order before sending it to the Canadian embassy in charge of your application. CVACs are not operated by the government of Canada but are contracted out for this type of work. The people working at the CVAC are not employees of Citizenship and Immigration Canada and do not make decisions on applications.

If a CVAC is open in your area you can still send your application directly to the Canadian embassy in your area or apply online at the CVAC. The CVAC typically has photocopy services, photo services and form assistance. However, they cannot advise you on your application.

When using a CVAC you can still mail in your application and can still have your passport returned to you via courier.
