Canada’s new age of accompanying dependents

Starting January 1, 2014 only those who are 18 or under will be considered to be an accompanying dependent on any Canadian immigration appication. This is a reduction in age from the current age of 22. There will be an exception however for those over 18 who are dependent on their parents financially due to a mental or physical disability.

This is important to keep in mind when thinking of lodging an application where your children may be turning 19 before the application can be submitted.
